Tri Club Challenge
The Tri Club Challenge is an internal competition for each club. Club members accumulate points through participation in events throughout the year. The points system is designed to reward performance and participation in events with club members. The more participants from the club in each race, the more points there are to win. All the parameters have been programmed into this site so athletes and club administrators need to do little more than just enter the race results.

- Points are awarded for participation in races in the following sports (See Table 1).
- The results can be entered into TriRaceBook by either the Club Member or a Club Administrator.
- The results must be publically available via the website of the race or via a recognised results service.
- The participant must be registered in the race under his or her own name.
- The participant must be registed in the race under their club for Triathlon and Duathlon events.
Calculation of Points Awarded
We will use some examples to illustrate how points are awarded.
Race Coefficient
Each event has a coefficient based on the type of sport and the duration or distance. See Table 2.
| Table 2 | Race Coefficients | ||||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Triathlon Duathlon Off Road Triathlon Off Road Duathon |
Other Multi Sports Duration (h) |
Run | Orientation | Trail | Bike | MBT | Swim | Nordic Ski | Coefficient |
| < 2h | < 20 Km | < 40 Km | < 1.5 Km | 10 pts | |||||
| Junior | 15 pts | ||||||||
| Novice/Sprint | >= 2h | >= 20 Km | < 100 Km | >= 40 Km | >= 1.5 Km | < 40 Km | 20 pts | ||
| >= 30 Km | 30 pts | ||||||||
| Olympic | >= 4h | >= 40 Km | < 20 Km | < 20 Km | >= 100Km | >= 60 Km | >= 40 Km | 40 pts | |
| >= 50 Km | 50 pts | ||||||||
| >= 6h | >= 60 Km | >= 80 Km | 60 pts | ||||||
| Long (O2)/70.3 | >= 8h | >= 80 Km | >= 20 Km | >= 20 Km | >= 150 Km | 80 pts | |||
| >= 10h | >= 100 Km | >= 40 Km | >= 40 Km | 100 pts | |||||
| Long (O3) | >= 200 Km | 120 pts | |||||||
| Ironman | 160 pts | ||||||||
Example: For an Olympic Distance Triathlon the race coefficient is 40 pts.
TCC Multiplier
For multi sport events the points are multiplied based on the finishing order of the club members.
Example A: If there are 5 members of a club participating in the the Olympic Distance Triathlon, the first placed finisher in the club will earn 5 x 40 = 200 pts. The second finisher will receive 4 x 40 = 160 pts etc and the last place finisher receives 1 x 40 = 40 pts.
For single sport events the multiplier is the same for all club members and is based on the table below.
| TCC Multiplier: Other Events | |
|---|---|
| Participants | Coefficient |
| < 5 | 1x |
| >= 5 | 1.5 x |
| >= 10 | 2 x |
| >= 15 | 2.5 x |
Example :10 club members completing a 10 Km Run Race, each athlete earns 2 x 10 pts = 20 pts.
Non Finishers
Participants who do not complete the race are awarded the number of points equal to the multiplier for each event. Example A For 5 club members completing in an Olympic Distance Triathlon, a non finisher receives 5 pts. Example B: for 10 club members completing a 10 Km Run Race, a non finisher receives 2 pts.
Gender Coefficient
To determine the finishing order between male and female club members for multi sport events a gender coefficient is applied to the female times.
Gender Coefficient = Winning Male Time (Overall) / Winning Female Time (Overall)
Example. At Kona 2008;
Gender Coefficient = 8h17m46s (Craig Alexander) / 9h06m/23s (Chrissie Wellington) = 0.911 for this race.
Thus the female club times are multiplied by 0.911 and the finishing order is determined based on these adjusted times.
Team Races
For multisport team races the multiplier is equal to the total club participants in the team event. Each team shares the points equally amongst themselves.
Example;
A club has 3 teams of 4 in a Sprint Distance race.
Race Coefficient = 40 pts.
Multiplier = 12 club members.
Team 1 members earn 420 pts each. (12 + 11 + 10 + 9)/4 x 40
Team 2 members earn 260 pts each. (8 + 7 + 6 + 5)/4 x 40
Team 3 members earn 100 pts each. (4 + 3 + 2 + 1)/4 x 40
Any team member not completing the course (either for techical or tactical reasons) still receives the same points.
Mixed Teams
Any team including both male and female members adjusts their finishing time according to the top overall male team and top overall mixed team times
Teams comprising non club members
Teams comprising non club members still recieve the points, however the participation of the non club members does not contribute to the multiplier.
Team Relays
For relay races a finisher will received the same points they would have received for a single sport event of the same distance or duration.
Wave Starts
For races with wave starts, the multiplier comprises all the club members who raced in all the waves as long as the race profile is the same.
Ties
Club members with identical TCC points are separated by:
- the most number of races
- the most number of triathlons
